The Highland Dancing Association of Taranaki is a competition organizer registered to the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (the world governing body of Highland Dancing) which is based in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Highland Dancing Association of Taranaki was the second association to hold Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing competions in New Zealand with its first competition held in February 2003. The Highland Dancing Association of Taranaki held the first international championship granted to a New Zealand association when it hosted the City of New Plymouth Open Championship in New Plymouth on 8 April 2006.

Objectives
  • To actively promote the technique of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing in New Zealand.
  • To encourage national and international participation of Highland Dancing.
  • To conduct Highland Dancing competitions in Taranaki.
  • To apply for funds from community grants and other funding agencies.
  • To create funding opportunities for Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing dancers to compete in Scottish Official Board competitions within New Zealand and worldwide.
  • To distribute funds from grants and fundraising activities to the benefit of dancers who are registered with the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing.
Membership to the Highland Dancing Association of Taranaki is available to:
  • Parents/caregivers of students taught by Judy Clark (Lawrie Studio of Highland and National Dancing) and whose children are registered with the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing and/or entering examinations conducted by the British Association of Teachers of Dance (BATD).
  • Or as from time to time as approved by the Executive Committee of the Highland Dancing Association of Taranaki.
Friends of the Association

Extended family members eg grandparents, aunts etc and interested persons of the community may apply to become a Friend of the Association.

Friends of the Association may attend meetings but do not have voting rights.
